This winter, Brian Jagde debuts in Italy at Napoli’s Teatro di San Carlo in one of his signature roles, Don José in Bizet’s smoldering classic, Carmen. This new production, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, opens the San Carlo’s 15-16 season. Acclaimed conductor Zubin Mehta leads the Orchestra and Coro e Coro di Voci Bianche del Teatro di San Carlo* and an international cast, including María José Montiel in the title role, Aris Argiris as Escamillo, and Eleonora Buratto sings Micaëla. The Gala Opening Night takes place on December 13, with additional performances on Dec. 16, 18 & 20. For tickets and more information, visit TeatroSanCarlo.it.

This is the first of three appearances in Carmen this season for Mr. Jagde, who can also be seen singing José in return engagements at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (4/16, 22 & 24) and San Francisco Opera, in the American premiere of Calixto Bieito’s spectacular production (5/27 & 296/1, 23 & 26, and 7/2).

*Jacques Delacote will conduct the December 18 performance.
