San Francisco Opera – Opera in the Park

They came in search of that special blend of vocal lyricism and lightning that opera can provide, and they got everything they’d bargained for … The production of Puccini’s “Tosca,” which opens at the War Memorial Opera House on Oct. 3, got an enticing teaser in the form of two expansive and stylish excerpts by Boito and Verdi from soprano Carmen Giannattasio, who will debut in the title role, along with tenor Brian Jagde’s lusty account of “Cielo e mar” from Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda.”
