Brian Jagde returns to the War Memorial stage this fall, to make his greatly anticipated debut as Calaf, the Unknown Prince, in Puccini’s masterpiece, Turandot. Mr. Jagde sings the role for all performances this season; September 8, 12, 15, 21, 24 & 30, November 18, 25 & 28 and December 3, 6 & 9. The international casts include Martina Serafin and Nina Stemme in the title role, Toni Marie Palmertree and Leah Crocetto as Liù, and Raymond Aceto and Solomon Howard as Timur. Maestro Nicola Luisotti leads the performances in September, the beginning of his last season as SFOpera’s Music Director, with Christopher Franklin leading from the podium for remaining dates. The production, designed by venerated artist David Hockney, has become a mainstay on the American operatic stage, and will be directed by Garnett Bruce.
